Hi, does this part of Promark Hot Rods are Moveable "bands" who can be adjusted to have different looseness of the rod ( like Vic Firth RUTES or Reglal Tip rod ) or made for use on crash to not damage rods ?

Hers are instructions for making your own Hot Rods for about
    1/4 of the price:

    Need:
    1. 19 1/8 Dowels (3 feet long)
    2. 5/8? Black plastic Caps
    3. Plastic tape (red or black?)

    Directions:

    1. On a flat surface Line up dowels and tape down.
    2. Draw a line across the row of dowels at 16?from the end.
    Repeat from other side.
    3. Remove tape dowels and cut at mark. Use a saw or clippers?
    4. Tape dowels together @ 7? up from CUT end.
    5. Place cap on CUT end. Leave factory end exposed.

    Makes One Pair

Also, you can experiment with different size dowels?

I reckon doing it the way TImbata suggested would also be quite a lot cheaper too, lol. They sell those things for silly prices.

Very fun to play with though.

I made my own recently from materials found at the local hardware outlet. Very cheap and you can make mistakes cause you get so much bang for the buck. Try different diameters. I copied the exact specs from Rods at first and then played around. I used duct tape for the "band"

The Rods are made well but mine never lasted very long, sometimes shredding in a good days play. For the money I had to go to alternate options. I do love the sound I get out of my snare from these things--that boxy pop sound I crave.

One thing about Rods is I find I have tremendous stick control playing ballads over conventional sticks. Maybe this is because of all my pillow practice???

Try heat shrink tubing instead of tape. It looks nicer!
